Actor Patrick J. Adams, best known for playing Mike Ross in the legal drama Suits, recently addressed why his character was absent from the spinoff series Suits: LA and whether he could return to the franchise in the future.
The original Suits followed Harvey Specter and his brilliant associate Mike Ross, who secretly practiced law without a degree. The show became a massive streaming hit years after its finale, sparking renewed interest in expanding the franchise.
However, Mike Ross did not appear in the Los Angeles-set spinoff. Adams explained that while he appreciates the legacy of the character, returning to the role would only happen if the story truly made sense. The actor suggested that revisiting Mike Ross should feel meaningful rather than simply revisiting the past for nostalgia.
Mike’s story originally concluded when he and Rachel Zane left New York to start their own public-interest law firm in Seattle. The character later briefly returned in the final season of Suits, helping Harvey Specter and the firm resolve a major legal battle.
Because of that satisfying ending, Adams believes bringing Mike back would require the right narrative opportunity. While he did not rule out a future appearance entirely, he made it clear that he is currently happy with where the character’s story ended.
Interestingly, the broader Suits universe has continued evolving through spinoffs and discussions of potential reunions. Even though Suits: LA attempted to expand the franchise with new characters and a Los Angeles setting, the show ultimately lasted only one season.
Still, the continued popularity of the original series means the door remains open for future projects — and possibly another appearance from Mike Ross somewhere in the Suits universe.
